We, as travellers, are hungry for new places to explore, new lodgings to stay, and new experiences to share. If our travels have taught us anything, it’s to be prepared for surprises around every corner. We were well aware of what to expect when we visited Jaisalmer last month. Sun-kissed buildings, beautiful heritage architecture, colourful markets buzzing with excited shoppers… and we got all that. What we didn’t expect was how amazingly hospitable and pleasant the local people were. We stayed in multiple hotels during our stay in Jaisalmer, out of which two nights we spent in Hotel Sairafort Sarovar Portico, a royal retreat with a vintage feel.
The staff there amazed killed us with their kindness and service. Everything we asked for was handed to us with a warm smile and a genuine passion to serve. The rooms provided to us were gorgeous and we felt like we had stepped back in time to a more classic era. The premises appear vast and spacious even though the hotel is not sitting on a vast area of land. The décor and architecture, combined with the way the restaurant staff is smartly dressed, in beautiful cultural outfits, truly brings out the old-world magic of Sarovar Portico. Once you’ve set foot within the gates of the hotel, it almost feels like you’re in another world, a world of kings and queens and Rajput royalty.
Situated amidst a hot and dry desert landscape, this hotel is an oasis of traditional designs and modern comforts. We couldn’t help exploring every inch of this property. The lobby is huge and a good place to settle down with a magazine or plan your itinerary. We also took a refreshing dip in the swimming pool as it was a hot day and the water cooled us off. But to be honest, sitting on the lawn, catching the cool evening breeze as the fountain before us lit up with lights, was the highlight of our day.
We clicked a lot of photos of the walls of the resort as they are carved in such a way that every frame is transformed into an insta-moment.
The hotel hosts a wonderful cultural performance every night, with delightful Rajasthani music and dance show. It’s mesmerizing and leaves you wanting more. The whole place lights up at night and when the lovely music fills the air, you realize this is one of those rare experiences you always wish for but rarely ever experience in your daily grind.
Sairafort Sarovar Portico offers a host of facilities and amenities, all of which are listed on their website. But we would like to take a moment to genuinely compliment the quality of food that they serve. It is absolutely scrumptious. We got to taste both local cuisine and continental food, and let me tell you, we couldn’t get enough of the delicacies. In the end, when our stomachs couldn’t take any more, we kept licking our fingers.
